SBA Grants

SBA grants as well as other small business grants are provided by various state, federal and local government agencies (Note, the SBA does not provide grants to start or expand businesses).  Grants are usually provided for the purpose of conducting research and or to spur high tech innovation in new fields.

Unlike loans, grants do not have to be repaid, and therefore are reserved for very specific purposes and are difficult to qualify for.    The money for grants comes from tax dollars.  Those that do qualify, often roll grants into other loan packages or deal structures so the grant money is a part of the over all project.  Common examples of successful grant recipients, include: new energy technologies/equipment, water purification/development, programs for spurring state tourism, etc.

Be Realistic About Small Business Grants

Bottomline 99% of small businesses are not going to qualify for or receive free grant money.  You’ll be better off spending your time by raising private capital or growing your business via a gross roots approach.

Be Wary of SBA Grant Providers

Any time free money is involved, con artists abound.   Be careful.  This is a haven for the unscropulsious to seek out those that are looking for something to good to be true.  If someone is asking you for upfront fees, however they are label them, be leery.

Government agencies are not going to ask you for application fees, retainers or processing fees.  They are going to heavily scrutinize you and your project but not ask you for $4,000 so that you can receive a $30,000 grant.  You are going to want to sit down with the providers and make sure they are a legitimate arm of the government.

We do not provide any type of assistance with SBA grants or any other type of small business grants.
